Students all around the world get their names mispronounced all the time. Many students at HHS have gone through the same thing.
“It makes me feel kind of frustrated and mad because to me my name’s really easy to pronounce,” freshman Mahdi Al-Shadod said. “And a lot of people I know like in my family, it’s really easy for them to pronounce my name but when I’m at school or anywhere, anyone who I know, they always pronounce my name wrong.”
Freshman Hajrudin Tahirvoic felt the same way.
“Usually the only people who really call me by my actual name would be my family, I’m around them a lot,” Tahirvoic said. “And the only people who call me Hajrudin are my friends and that’s it, so I’m quite used to it.”
Many students have felt frustrated from having their names mispronounced
“Having my name mispronounced makes me feel kind of embarrassed and I feel like an outsider,” junior Atziry Rivas stated. “This makes me feel like an outcast and that I’m gonna get lonely.”
Other students don’t seem to mind this factor.
“I mean not bad though because I know my name is hard,” sophomore Jahangir Khaksar said. “Its not like an American name.”
Although the mispronunciation of names can be a negative thing, students have learned to not let it bother them.
“Even if people stumble over my name, they’ll never stumble over who I am,” said freshman Adina Catic
