A new biopic film about the hit artist Michael Jackson is set to bring the legendary performer’s life back into the spotlight when it releases in theaters on April 24th, 2026. The film, titled Michael, tells the story of one of the most influential artists in music history, from his early days as a child star to his rise as a global icon.

Directed by Antoine Fuqua, the movie follows Jackson’s journey beginning with the Jackson 5 and continuing through his groundbreaking solo career. The film promises to highlight both his musical achievements and the personal struggles that shaped his life.

Taking on the role of Jackson is his real-life nephew, Jaffar Jackson, marking his film debut. Producers chose him after a global search, citing his strong resemblance and natural ability to capture the icon’s style and presence.  

As excitement builds up for the film, seniors Stanley Hopgood and Christian Brooks, both familiar with Michael Jackson’s influence, discussed their opinions on the casting of Jaafar Jackson and the significance of the upcoming film.

“Perfection. When you really get someone from the bloodline, especially a direct nephew, it makes the experience a whole lot better,” Hopgood said.

Brooks agreed, saying, “I think the studio’s choice to cast someone in the bloodline, especially a nephew, they picked the right person for the job. He’s really gonna help create not only the singing and dancing, but the characteristics and personality.”

Beyond casting, the film has also sparked discussion about Jackson’s lasting impact on music and pop culture.

“Mike Jack’s influence really changed up the game,” Hopgood said. “To this day, live shows and artists like The Weekend use moves similar to his because he brought that style into a newer generation.” 

Brooks added, “Out of every musician and artist, he’s had the most impact in every genre art, music, singing, and acting. He’s a staple for people before and after him and will always be the most inspirational and impactful in the artist industry.” 

With a reported high budget and years of development, Michael is shaping up to be one of the most highly anticipated music biopics in recent years. Still, the film may also face challenges in balancing Jackson’s success with the more complex parts of his life.

No matter how the story is told, many agree that Jackson’s legacy remains unmatched.

“Michael Jackson’s legacy is nothing short of endless,” Brooks said.
