Sinister, gruesome, and unsettling. That’s what Smile 2 brings.
Smile 2 (2024) is a horror movie sequel to Smile (2022). In Smile 2, the main character, Skye Riley, becomes cursed by an evil spirit that causes victims to smile before dying. She tries to uncover the curse’s origin and stop it from spreading further while trying to survive its deadly effects. Smile 2 builds on Smile and expands the curse’s mystery; most things from the last movie were picked up right where it ended.
Smile 2’s main strength is the intensity of its scenes. Like the first movie, Smile 2 has many unsettling scenes. The unsettling and gruesome scenes keep viewers anxious, making the next sense that’s about to pop up more frightening than the one that passed.
Smile 2 is such a great movie, and I enjoyed it. Personally, as someone who really loves scary movies that boost my adrenaline, I found that the suspense and jump scare scenes had me in a chokehold.
This movie is the most gruesome, unsettling, and disturbing movie I’ve seen in a while. During some parts of the movie, I had my eyes closed refusing to watch, and as I left the movie theater I felt like I needed to wash my eyes out and pray. When I tried to go to bed that night, I was awakened by many nightmares…Smile 2 definitely left an impact on me.
Atziry Rivas (10) felt the same. “I was definitely very scared watching it, and in my opinion, it was way scarier than the first one,” she said.
Rivas thought the sequel was scarier than the first, “It had way more tension than [the first] Smile and definitely brought me a lot of fear, and the most scary part was when a monster was on the stage possessing the body of the main character,” said Rivas.
Unlike Rivas, Jahveon Covington (10) had a different opinion; he didn’t find it scary, but instead interesting.
“Smile 2 was less scary than the first one,” Covington said. “Overall, my reaction to it was surprisingly positive. I wasn’t scared, but it left me curious. Smile 2 felt like a ‘never let them know your next move’ type of movie, and I would definitely recommend it.”
Despite other’s opinions, I give Smile 2 a 9 out of 10, the movie exceeded my expectations and was definitely worth the price of admission. I have high expectations for Smile 3. It is by far is one of my favorite horror movies, and the movie itself was well made, especially the jumpscares and horrifying scenes, and it deserves a watch!
