Sophomore Mia Double has a house full of animals. When you walk into her home you’ll see a tower of cages next to her stair case and more to your right in her living room. If you go upstairs you’ll see even more enclosures in every direction.
The Double family pets are not there just to look cute, they also get their family some money.
“My mom thought that animals were awesome and when she breeds the geckos it makes her a lot of money,” Double said. “We breed our geckos and our snakes so whenever they have babies we can sell them.”
The Double family has a very wide variety of animals in their home.
“I have different breeds of geckos. I have a dog, cats, spiders, roaches, snakes, fish, tortoises, iguanas, ferrets, and rats,” Double said.
Most people would think that walking into a house with that many animals would be frightening at first, but some people might just be amazed by all the animals.
“It was like she had a zoo in her house,” Freshman Maddison Pargo said. “There were a bunch of snakes, lizards, dogs, cats, just all these types of animals. It was lowkey scary but cool at the same time.”
Having so many pets could possibly make it hard to love all of them equally.
“I love all my pets, but my cat Donquaris The Third has to be my favorite,” Double said. “We first found him while we were on a family camping trip. He ran to me first and slept in my bed with me.”
Having a range between 200 to 300 pets is definitely a lot to handle but with more than one person helping it must be way easier.
“Everyone in my family has different jobs for different animals to keep them taken care of,” Double said. “My jobs are to take care of the tortoises, and the ferrets.”
Although Double loves her pets they can still get in the way of some things in her life.
“On Saturdays is when we go and clean out every animal’s cage,” Double said. “So on weekends I can’t hang out with my friends till all the animals are done being taken care of.”
