Spotlight Players’ Puffs Opens This Weekend

HHS’s Spotlight Players open up their 2021-2022 season this week. This year’s play, Puffs is the comedic retelling of Harry Potter from the viewpoint of a Hufflepuff.  The cast is extremely excited for the concept of the play.

“I joined the play because I am a Harry Potter fan and it sounded like fun,” Alianna Card, junior said.

Because of the large number of roles, some cast members are playing several characters.

“I have fourteen roles which range from Professor McG all the way to a rower for one scene,” Lydia LaVine, senior said.

This many roles can get overwhelming and difficult. Many cast members say that memorizing your lines is the most important, but difficult job they have.

“The most difficult aspect, to me at least, is learning lines. It’s always so hard to convince myself to actually practice them outside of rehearsal,” Card said.

Even with all those roles and all those previous plays, some of our seniors still have some stage fright.

“You never get rid of the nerves, but you learn to cope with them,” LaVine said. “As you get used to the thrill and adrenaline of going on stage, you begin to be able to calm your nerves better. I still get nervous, but I know with experience that if something comes up, I can handle it. I just know I have everyone right there with me and I take many deep breaths before going on.”

The show opens Thursday night.  Performances are Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 7pm.

While Thursday and Friday shows are sold out, tickets for Saturday are still available and need to be reserved in advance.
