Spirit week is here, and students have begun to show off their school pride with a week full of fun themes, games, and celebrations.
The theme days started with Monday “Dress as your favorite character.” Tuesday was “Dress as your future career,” followed by “White Lies Wednesday.” On Thursday everyone can enjoy “Throw back Thursday” and Friday finishes off the week with “Blue and Gold Day.”
Senior class president Anishica Brady says she’s especially excited for Thursday. “I LOVE Throwback Thursday,” Brady said. “I love going to the 1990’s since I believe that was the time for African Americans to thrive in fashion and lifestyle in general.”
The competition is also heating up. “The classes do get pretty competitive during Spirit Week,” STUCO Advisor Mrs. Emily Hill explained. “The Junior and Senior classes in particular tend to be very competitive with each other.”
This year’s Spirit Assembly will be held in the Dome on Friday, October 10th. “We will have several competitive games that any student is welcome to participate in,” Hill said. “All classes will have the opportunity to earn points toward winning the Spirit Week Jug.”
The Homecoming dance is Saturday, October 11th. Tickets went on sale Monday, October 6th. On “Monday Madness,” tickets were sold for $10. The rest of the week, they are $20 each or 2 for $30. At the door, they’ll cost $25.
Brady said her class is ready for one last win. “I am really confident about my class winning Spirit Week,” she said. “What differentiates us from other classes is that we contribute to Spirit Week together. We’re all chill with each other, and it really gives me comfort to know that my class is dedicated and motivated to win a third time.”
But for her, being a senior makes this year emotional. “Don’t remind me,” she said. “It’s really bittersweet. I think being a senior is one of the hardest truths to confront. From when my class won freshman year Spirit Week to now gives me nostalgia, knowing I’ll never get those years back.”
