When students arrived at HHS on the morning of Thursday, May 15, 2025, they were greeted with a “slippery” surprise. With the front lobby being covered from top to bottom in beach-themed decorations, the slip n’ slide outside the main entrance doors, and summer music blasting, the HHS Class of 2025’s senior prank was definitely one for the books, being called the “the best senior prank we’ve had in many years,” by HHS principal, David Williams.
“Every teacher has said, as long as they can remember, this is the best one,” Williams said, “It was the best because it was surprising, it was shocking, but then it was also fun, and kids were so respectful.”
Compared to the class of 2024’s senior prank, and pretty much any other senior prank done at HHS, this “Beach Day” prank was a breath of fresh air for the entire faculty. Past pranks had been noted as mean, disrespectful, and sometimes just plain destructive. Faculty classrooms have been destroyed, hallways have been trashed, and expensive school equipment has even been tampered with.
“Teachers would feel like their personal space had been violated, but this [prank] was fantastic,” Williams said, “It had zero issues.”
Although the decorations in the front lobby were pleasing to the eye, it took hours of work, dedication, and planning from the seniors to figure out how they would pull this off. At first, the seniors wouldn’t come together to figure it all out, so HHS senior Miranda Guss decided to step up.
“I think I spent over a week or two trying to talk to people in the group chat about it,” Guss said, “Then nothing happened, so I kind of took it into my own hands and I talked to [a few of my friends] and we were like, ‘let’s just go shopping for everything.’”
Other seniors such as Alyssa Wilson, Brenna Gaines, and Jason Washausen, either stayed after school to set up the prank the day before, or came to school the morning of.
“They had to get a ladder for everything like putting stuff on the ceiling, so it took a while,” Wilson said.
Along with the slip n’ slide and inside decorations, there were also snacks, drinks, floaties and leis being handed out to everyone– not just the seniors. As for the seniors who showed up to the school at 6am the morning of the prank, there was a little less work involved.
“It took about 45 minutes,” Gaines said, “Then it was a lot of just standing around, waiting and blowing bubbles.”
HHS music teacher, Bryan Greenberg, actually went down the slip n’ slide that was set up outside the front lawn!
“It was a lot of fun,” Greenberg said, “I’m glad the students found the comedy in it, I’m hoping it makes them like me a bit more.”
Despite being the newest teacher at HHS, starting just this semester, Greenberg has already made connections with some of the seniors.
“I’m a bit closer in age to the seniors than I am to the other teachers here, so I found myself hanging out with them a bit more than the other teachers,” Greenberg said.
This year’s senior prank is one to remember for sure. The seniors, underclassmen, and even the faculty got to experience a morning of fun and some fantastic decorations. The class of ‘25 will be missed, but at least they’re leaving in style!
“It’s kind of like almost losing friends in a way,” Greenberg said, “But I’m sure that they’ll go off to do amazing things, and I hope for the best for them.”
