We always wonder who’s behind that Winfield Tiger. This year, it happens to be senior Alyssa Wilson.
Alyssa Wilson first became the school mascot because it was unlike anything she’d ever done.
“I wanted to get out of my comfort zone somehow, and it became the perfect opportunity,” Wilson said. She believes that since nobody knows it’s you under the mask, it’s easier to be outgoing with people you don’t know.
Most people do not understand why anyone would want to be hidden in a stinky old costume doing cheers.
Luckily for Alyssa, she got a new costume this year. Unfortunately, it gets extremely hot inside the suit. There is a fan, but it barely works and doesn’t do much. Throughout that, she still says, “The heat never stopped me, though!”
This is sadly Alyssa’s first and last time being the school mascot since she is a senior.
However, she made the best out of the season her favorite moment being when she had a dance battle with another mascot. And says, “or filming a snow day video with Dr. Carl.”
Wilson was beside the cheerleaders, learning the cheers at practices and cheering with
them at games. Her favorite cheer is a battle cheer called “calm down”.
Overall, Wilson had a fiery season, with loving support from family and friends. She made a significant impact on the mascot community. The next Hancock tiger has a lot to live up to.
Now knowing everything about Wilson’s experience in the suit, you might be wondering who she is as a student and at Hancock High School.
What makes Wilson a prominent student at Hancock High School is that she has a weighted cumulative GPA of 4.347 and is ranked third in my class.
Wilson says, “I think my willingness to better myself and advocate for myself is what makes me a prominent student.”
Being ranked third in the whole class of seniors is not easy work; Wilson keeps a certain mentality to maintain her GPA and rank.
“Being organized, having a routine, and surrounding myself with good people are what motivate me to do my best every day,” Wilson said.
Although Wilson is a strategic and smart student, she also has athletic abilities. Wilson played volleyball freshmen and junior years and is taking the initiative by starting a new sport this spring being track.
