On February 9th, the Philadelphia Eagles beat the Kansas City Chiefs 40-22 in the Super Bowl LIX. It was a “blowout” as Mr. Jose Ochoa called it, the score being 24-0 at the end of just the first half. Had the Chiefs won, it would’ve been a “three-peat,” winning the Super Bowl three years in a row, but the Eagles stopped that from happening.
In just the first half of the game, the Eagles had almost twice as much time of possession as the Chiefs, and had 179 total yards, while the Chiefs only had 23.
“I was rooting for the Eagles, but then I ultimately said I believed the Chiefs were going to win,” Ochoa said, “Clearly my prediction was wrong.”
Many others felt this way as well. Chiefs and Eagles fans alike are baffled at how the Super Bowl went down, calling it “insane” and “almost impossible to believe.”
Nicholas Urbanowicz (11) watched the game with his girlfriend and his family.
“I think the chiefs came in and they were way too cocky, so they were like ‘we got this in the bag,’” Urbanowicz said, “I’m not that big of a sports fan, but that was pretty funny.”
However, for the people who don’t care as much about football, there was the halftime show to be excited for. American rapper Kendrick Lamar, and his guest singer SZA, performed at the halftime show for the Super Bowl LIX.
Many have differing opinions on the show. Some enjoyed Lamar’s performance, while others found it to be “a bit rushed.” HHS librarian Mrs. Krista Dunn watched the game with her family, and especially enjoyed the halftime show.
“I loved it, it was amazing,” Dunn said, “My son has a theory that he’s coming out with a new album, and that’s why he had the whole ‘Uncle Sam’ aspect, and why there was a game controller.”
Mr. Kalik May enjoyed it as well, pointing out that Lamar’s performance represented something deeper.
“I think they could’ve cut the mics up a little better, but the symbolism was very cool,” May said.
There’s more than just watching the game and halftime show to look forward to, like eating food, making predictions and watching the commercials.
May said his favorite game day activities are spending time with his. family and eating a lot of food, “I love the game day food, that’s always the highlight of it.”
Overall, people found the game very entertaining, although it did make some Chief’s fans a bit angry. Leah Kelly(11) was hoping for the Chiefs to win, but after their loss she’s “Considering switching sides.”
“I mean, it’s like Chiefs didn’t even have a defense the whole game,” Kelly said, “I know we can play better than that, it seemed like they were just being lazy.”
At the end of the day, lots of people got to watch the Super Bowl with their friends and family, and they all expressed how much fun it was despite what team they were rooting for.
“It was really fun to watch, I could tell that the players had emotion after the game from their win,” Urbanowicz said, “It meant the world to the players that the Eagles won, and I think this really boosted their confidence.”
