Even though most HHS students are not of voting age, many still have strong opinions about the recent election.
A Growler poll taken by 41 HHS students showed the opinions of people about the 2024 election. 29.3 percent of students were “very satisfied” with the outcome of the presidential election. While 41.5 percent of students were “very dissatisfied” with the result.
“I just dislike a lot of standpoints Trump supports,” Sarah Nunez (10) said.
A senior student, who did not give their name, added “I am very unpleased as he is a felon, misogynistic, and has very controlling laws he wants to put in place. For example, project 2025 takes away multiple rights for many minorities and women.”
On the other hand, one sophomore who reported being satisfied with the outcome said, “I believe that this outcome of the election was great because Trump might not be the best person, but he is an outstanding president. With this, me going into the Marines in the future, my grandmother isn’t as worried about me serving in the military anymore.”
However, this was not the only thing going on. Amendment 3 passed, which legalized abortion, and many people had mixed thoughts about this.
“I’m satisfied because I believe WOMEN should have a say in what they do with THEIR body, and I don’t think any man, regardless of their role should put laws down against Roe V Wade saying we shouldn’t get the right to abortion?” Nunez said.
“I do understand how it’s like destroying a future life in later terms, but if a woman is deciding, it’s in her best interest to get an abortion due to the circumstances then let them be,” she added.
Another person that was satisfied with the outcome wanted to share their thoughts.
“I am satisfied that amendment 3 was passed as it gives rights to women and their bodies,” a senior said.
They went on and added, “Many people don’t realize how important abortion rights are. Abortion isn’t only used to get rid of a fetus in a woman. But to also help so that women don’t die because there can be complications from the fetus.”
While some people were satisfied with amendment 3 passing, others were not.
“I believe that abortion should be illegal because although they might not be born yet, it is still a human life, and human life is priceless. I think that whatever may have happened, there are other options that may be better than abortion,” one sophomore said.
