With 2025 just around the corner, sophomore Celeste Santonge is excited to take on her new role as a class officer. She is confident in her ability to make a difference and build connections with her classmates.
“I’m confident in making a difference by listening to my classmates, and bringing their ideas forward,” she stated.
After a year without a class leader, she believes her leadership will fill the gap and help bring together the class.
“I’m really excited about being the new class officer,” she said. “I think it’s going to be fun as the year goes on, and I feel prepared to overcome any challenges.”
While Santonge is confident in her abilities, she also acknowledges that there is pressure that comes with this role. Celeste admits there is pressure on her but she sees the pressure as motivation.
“There’s definitely some pressure,” Santonge shared. “Last year, no one stepped up to represent our class, and I wanted to change that. I feel like we needed someone to guide us, and that’s why I took on this role.”
As she prepares to face challenges, one of her main goals is to increase participation and ensure every student feels heard. Santonge has experience in navigating conflicts, particularly from her years in middle school, and believes the skills she learned can help her become supportive of her classmates.
“I know what it’s like to be in difficult situations where you feel like there’s no way out,” Santonge stated. “I want to be there for others and help them through their situations.”
Looking forward, Santonge expects the main challenge will be getting students used to having a class leader. However, she is confident that her dedication, social skills, and strong involvement in various clubs and sports such as softball, basketball, and soccer will let her make a lasting impact.
“I’m not scared to be different and stand out,” Santonge said. “My goal is to make sure everyone knows they have someone their age who’s willing to listen and help out.”
