Seen the wrestling promotions around school lately? What’s all the hype about Hancock Wrestling anyway? HPHS wrestlers are back putting the work in to prepare for the season. It’s been a long time away from their sport, but they’re ready to come back for another successful season.
The girls had their first match on November, 18th, at St. Clair High School. The boys had their first match on November, 27th, at Herculaneum HIgh School, for their 15 male wrestlers on the team.
Donald Bonzano (11) expressed that he’s put in lots of work outside of practice and even during the off season.
“I think I have a pretty good shot at making it to state this year with how things are looking now,” he said.
Damian Milner (11) was in the 285 weight class last season but plans to drop to a lower class for this new season.
“I am looking forward to being able to not have to wrestle meatballs. I plan on dropping down a weight class because of the struggles that I had last year.”
Coach Ryan Keith, who always opens his first practices with a simple message “Don’t be dumb” tells not just his team, but everyone. “Work hard, stay committed and success will follow,” he said.
You can come out and support the team at the home meets on December 6th, December 14th, January 3rd, January 5th, and February 1st.
