“It has been wonderful building relationships with the students and staff at Hancock,” one of HHS’s new teachers this year said.
At the beginning of the year, this new teacher was known as Miss Eva Rasey. After getting married in October, she is now Mrs. Kaikkonen. Kaikkonen teaches Child Development, along with Foods and Career Exploration.
Kaikkonen decided to become the FACS teacher for HHS because she loves teaching students life-long skills they might not get the chance to learn at home.
“I truly enjoy being a FACS teacher because I love teaching students life-long skills, it is also fun to provide students with experiences they may not have otherwise.”
She has a warm and welcoming personality and makes students feel comfortable being around her.
“Mrs. [Kaikkonen] is my favorite teacher because she is always positive,” sophomore Kevin Nash said. “I like her class because it’s a chill environment and good vibes.”
Not only does Mrs. Kaikkonen impact the students, but also faculty members.
“Mrs. [Kaikkonen] was extremely knowledgeable about the FACS curriculum and she is passionate about teaching it,” HHS Principal David Williams said. “She has a lot of energy and many fresh ideas and students seem to really enjoy her classes. It has been great to see students learning to cook real meals.”
Not only is she a good fit for liking, but also wants to help Hancock grow.
“She was excited about expanding our foods and nutrition classes and has expressed her interest in renewing our community garden,” Williams said. “She hopes to grow herbs and vegetables that can be used in some of her classes.”
