On November 11th, HHS Student Council hosted the Veterans Day breakfast to help acknowledge all the veterans who have fought for us and the country and risked their lives.

Students who attend our school brought family members who are veterans to the breakfast where they enjoyed: bacon, sausage, fruit salad, hash browns, casserole, french toast, and a bunch of different pastries catered from Genesis.

After the breakfast was served, a speech was given by Lela Zeilman (12), which was originally written by Kiara Morris (12) thanking the veterans for their hard work and dedication. Also about all the time they put into trying to save the country, and risking their lives for us. Towards the end of the speech, Zeilman read a poem.

There were about 50-100 veterans who attended the breakfast. The atmosphere was very calm and quiet. Everyone was mostly with family and friends, it was almost like a family getting together.  “It was tense when you weren’t with people who you knew,” Kamya Lee (9) said.

Altogether the event was a very big success. It was the first Veterans Day breakfast HHS had thrown since Covid-19, and all the veterans enjoyed the meal, the presentation and the students interacted with everybody. The veterans had nothing but praises to say. “We definitely plan on doing it again,” Courtney Denton STUCO sponsor said.
